Operation: Revelation November 2nd, 2002
The weather was blustery. Rain threatened, clouds loomed. Firearm hunting season, was only
13 days away. But still members of the Wayne county Michigan militia were in the field.
The revelation that was apparent to me was that training in November is usually attended by fewer people. Perhaps its because people are planning on getting some extended field time come opening day. With that in mind they choose to spend time at home with their families or fulfilling necessary homeowner chores (you know leaf patrol, winterizing their homes and such)
.
One other thing that was apparent was that people often bring out their deer guns rather than there battle rifle. I for one, am not opposed to getting more rifles so that I can have a special weapon that I can label "deerslayer". But for now due to budget considerations I am forced to use either my battle rifle or my Remmington 11-47 12 gauge. Either long gun is more than up to the challenge. Having already sighted in my Vepr (AK variant) with a suitable (high priced) commercial hunting round I am more than ready to boldly blast Bambi's big brother and bring it home.

Of course deer guns were not the only rifles present at this training. One of our newest level 1 qualified people LR , showed off his newest rifle a CETME .308. Lou of course gave him plenty of helpful info and guided LR as he sighted in and broke in his new rifle. LR seemed very happy with his new acquisition it took only a mag or so to get it dead on from the 100 yard mark. Soon after this rifle was function tested and sighted in we broke for lunch.

Of course being as we are all finely tuned highly effective modern day warriors, and health conscious individuals. We had a well balanced meal high in protein low in fat and packed with vitamins....Yeah right we had burgers and beans and they were good. Nothing like friends and food enjoyed in the great outdoors.
Well another November training session not much in the way
of small unit tactics, or new people qualified. But still a success! We were there ! One
of us has another fine battle rifle. Our deer guns are ready for the task. To all that are
going to venture out deer hunting be safe and be successful.
